Base Flyer

The 12d® Model™ Base Product was written from the ground up for the civil and surveying market. Work flow follows traditional engineering ideas, making it very easy to learn and use.

The Base includes the many string types to allow accurate civil engineering and survey modelling. Super alignment strings provide independent horizontal and vertical geometry and are created and edited interactively on plan and section views

The Base includes ability to do simple road and rail designs, building platforms, stop banks, storage ponds, dams and canals while the Detailed Alignment Design module is available for more complex work.

When adjustments are made to the strings or templates, a simple recalc facility automatically removes redundant information and replaces it with the updated geometry and volumes. This is particularly useful when many trials are needed to determine the best position for the final design.

There are three main types of views – plan, section and perspective – any number of which can be created by the user for examining, constructing and editing information.

All views are automatically linked so that data can be viewed and manipulated using more than one view. The 12d®Model™ section view extends the concept of a section to include a corridor either side of the string being profiled. Any strings in the corridor can be displayed in the section view. Hence potential clashes between the profile string and utilities are easy to detect.

The 12d® Model™ ‘super string’ provides a simple tool for 3d modelling of utilities such as telephone lines, electricity cables, gas lines and water pipes. Super strings have the ability to have unlimited attributes stored on each string, vertex or segment of the string. This provides the ability to store, display and collaborate metadata information from the project to compatible information systems, providing the ideal basis for BIM information and ADAC information management.

Create, view, inquire and contour tin models (triangulated irregular networks) up to the module point Base. Cut and plot sections through tin models and other design features.

Some other functions of the 12d® Model™ Base are:

  • Raster and image printing
  • Full CAD tools and plan generation capabilities
  • Complete off the shelf and customisable interface
  • Point Cloud Tools
  • 3D clash detection Tools
  • Create drive through movies of the 3D model
  • Export non-proprietary formats such as 3D pdf, KML (Google Earth), IFC and STL (3D Printer)
  • Import csv, 2D pdf, xyz and other formats

Full CAD and Plot Production Capabilities

12d Model provides all the tools necessary for users to create, annotate, format and produce high quality finished plans within a single software solution.

Complete CAD tools are available such as lines, arcs, hatching, text placement, line styles, colour and weight control and symbols. Within 12d® Model™, historically manual CAD functions are replace with automated functions, such as line labelling, scheme plan labelling etc. producing large time savings in the creation of output drawings

Fully customisable title blocks are used and added to the drawings, with title text parameters able to be manually entered, populated from other Project detail information, or from external registers such as Excel spreadsheets.

Dynamic associated CAD objects such as dimensions, leader information and tables can be produced within 12d®Model™. Information such as distances, object names and coordinates are associated with the strings, and can be automatically recalculated as the objects are changed.

Plotted tables can be linked to Super Alignment geometry strings or external files such as csv or text files, meaning that when the geometry, or file contents change, the table can be individually or globally updated to show the correct information.

Single plan drawings, longitudinal and cross section plots, or fully detailed composite drawings can be produced, providing users with all the tools required to detail and convey the 3D model survey or design data within their project.

Multiple plotter types are available to produce the finished plans, such as all installed Windows printers as well as custom built PDF and XPS writers which create high quality plans either with line and text information, or raster image data.

Digital Data Collaboration

Consistent with the current industry preference of digital data transfer, the 12d® Model™ Base module provides users a number of ways to collaborate digital data in a non-proprietary format, allowing recipients of the data to view and disseminate the 3D data, without the need for highly technical resources. Examples of this is the ability to export KML file which can be viewed in the free Google Earth application, IFC (International Feature Class) and 3D PDF files.
